Carpet tile install patterns
Commercial carpet tile can change character completely depending on how it’s laid. Pick a method and watch the sample floor re-lay itself.
All the arrows on the tile backs point one direction, so the pile runs the same way across the room. It is the closest a tile floor gets to the look of broadloom.
Every tile is rotated a quarter turn from its neighbors, which makes a soft checkerboard out of a striped or textured style. The seams get lost in the pattern.
Tiles face one way, but each row slides half a tile along, like brickwork. The offset breaks up the long straight seam lines a grid makes.
Also called non-directional. Tiles go down without regard to the arrows, so there is no single direction for light, wear or color shifts to show up in.
Rule of thumb: each carpet style lists the install methods its maker approves. Lay it one of those ways, or a warranty claim can get complicated. Our team can help you match a style to the traffic in each room.
Choosing a carpet
Most offices end up with carpet tile in work areas, but broadloom still earns its place. Here’s how the two compare on the questions that matter once your team is walking on it every day. The dark cell in each row is usually the stronger choice.
The usual split: tile in open offices, corridors and anywhere cabling runs under the floor; broadloom in boardrooms and private offices where a seamless look counts. Many floors use both.

Putting carpet under furniture that’s already standing means lifting, shuffling and working around it. When new carpet and new furniture are both on the list, the floor goes in first. We do both, so the carpet and the furniture install can be booked with one company.
